Ciudad Guzmán, Jalisco, México
Ciudad Guzmán is about 100 miles southwest of Guadalajara. The population of Ciudad Guzmán is close to 100,000 people. People stroll through the clean and quaint town square, and on the weekend, people of all ages gather in the plaza to socialize. Cellular phones and burros add to the mix of modern life and tradition. The city has a second traditional name of Zapotlán El Grande.
Although small family businesses predominate in Ciudad Guzmán, agriculture and industry are also important to this area.
Ciudad Guzmán is nestled at the foot of a dormant volcano. In the distance are volcanic mountains, many of which are slightly active from time to time. The city has a volcanic activity warning system in place in the town square, and they also have an extensive recycling system.
Ciudad Guzmán became Longmont’s second sister city in 1997. If you are interested in a presentation about Mexico for your school or organization, please contact us.
