Longmont is 37 miles north of Denver, Colorado and just 10 miles east of the Rocky Mountains. Long ago, this area was inhabited by the Ute Indians. In 1871, the town of Longmont was founded as a planned agricultural community by settlers from Chicago and New York. Germans from Russia and many people from Japan and Mexico also settled here because of the rich soil.
Longmont has a diverse population. Agriculture is still important to Longmont, and farms and horses can be seen around the outskirts of the city, along with many lakes and the Rocky Mountains.
An abundance of nature, great outdoor sports, good schools, and a friendly city government has attracted many high-tech firms, industries, and entrepreneurs to Longmont.
